Roadside Views – Summer Roadtrip

Roadside Views – Summer Roadtrip

We headed north from Ludington after the hike, counted our blessings when we discovered The Bungalow Inn still serving dinner at 10 pm. After checking several Manistee hotels late into the night, we finally found one that was not booked full with fishermen hoping to win the local derby. I awoke to another beautiful blue sky, fluffy cloud day and began the drive towards Sleeping Bear Dunes. The first awe inspiring roadside stop was the Arcadia Scenic Lookout which is also aptly named Continue reading

Ludington State Park

Ludington State Park

Two years ago traveled to Shanty Creek and did a drive by tour through Charlevois & Petoskey on my way to Mackinac Island. I liked what I saw and wanted to tour the little finger portion of the Michigan mitten. The first Lake Michigan view was supposed to happen around Saugatuck, but a missed sign resulted in a tour of Holland instead. I hit the highway and didn't stop again until I reached Ludington. We drove out to the Ludington State Park to have a look around. After investigating the Continue reading

Long’s Pumpkin Patch

Long’s Pumpkin Patch

Long's Farm is a Commerce Institution, whether it's their spring asparagus, summer corn and strawberries, or fall apples. I love the fall visual landscape as the cold nights kill off the greenery revealing bright orange pumpkins. Bordering the fields are trees, and as the leaves change color, they provide a perfect seasonal backdrop to the pumpkin patch. Take some time to stop by for some apple cider and fresh donuts. Bring the kids in the evening and let them get lost in the corn maze while Continue reading

1st Peek: 2009 Walled Lake Northern Marching Band

I've been a little slow in posting this but here is the post-camp performance of the Walled Lake Northern Marching Band. I wanted to keep Mary Hulliberger's introductions and volunteer thanks but I was limited by upload time and file size. If you're a WLNMB parent and want a copy of the entire performance, drop me an email and I'll make a copy for you. It's so hard to believe that these kids have learned their routines and music in only two weeks! A week of day camp at the school and a Continue reading

North American International Auto Show in Detroit 01-18-09

Show me the Cup Holders! I am one of the women who takes cup holders into account when purchasing a car. I don't care very much about how many seconds the car takes to go from 0-60, I don't really care if it's got a HEMI in it. I expect whatever vehicle I consider to get my family from A to B and not cost a fortune in gas and maintenance. My priority is choosing a vehicle that has a comfortable interior space focused on sensible usability. Now that I live in Detroit, Michigan, I decided I Continue reading

Detroit on Foot: 10th Annual DAC – ULI Downtown Walking Tour

Last night I had the pleasure of seeing a new Detroit, a Detroit I didn’t know existed. I’ve lived in Michigan nearly three years and have only traveled downtown a handful of times. Each visit was enjoyable and made me appreciate the Motor City a tiny bit more than I had before the visit. Last night changed all that. I fell in love and learned to truly appreciate the city for its rich architectural history, its future potential and its optimistic presence. The walking tour theme was Continue reading
