Visiting in the Rain

Visiting in the Rain

This was today's visitor, they often hang out at the end of my lawn where there is some flooding or fish in the shallow water beside the dock. This is the first one I've seen actually ON the dock. Wish I had a lens that let me get closer. This was taken through my rain soaked family room window because if I had opened the sliding door the Great Blue Heron would be gone. It is a Great Blue, isn't it? Continue reading

Lush vegetation, higher water than usual

Lush vegetation, higher water than usual, originally uploaded by cletch. Walking the dog at Dodge Park in Commerce, Mi. The little stream is usually much quieter than it is today. It seems the greenery has enjoyed all this rain. It also seems the wildlife is more abundant / noisier thus year. The Pot Of Gold at the End of the Razor

The Pot Of Gold at the End of the Razor

Would you shave your head to show solidarity with kids fighting cancer? I learned about St. Baldrick's through one of my networking meetings. Emily Macbeth began supporting the cause after losing her child to cancer. She is organizing a fundraising event to be held at the Uptown Grill on Maple Road in Commerce. (If you haven't been to the Uptown Grill, you're missing out! Everything is excellent and they have live music regularly.) You can visit the St. Baldrick's Uptown Grill event page Continue reading

Nickelback Concert, Bristow, VA 09-29-09

While on vacation, I attended a concert in Bristow, Virginia at the Nissan Pavilion. Not only did I have a great view of the entire 4+ hour show, but Dark Horse was the best and most fun concert I've ever attended. We arrived a little late and only saw Saving Abel perform Addicted. Papa Roach was a complete surprise - great stage presence. Hinder was good, I've liked their music for some time. Nickelback was awesome. Music was great, effects were stunning and Chad Kroeger Continue reading

The Way Too Friendly Flies

The Way Too Friendly Flies

While visiting friends in northern Michigan this summer, my son and I decided to take a hike through a quiet part of a forest near Torch Lake. We got about a mile in and had to turn around and leave because the flies were making us crazy! Felt like hundreds were landing in our hair and buzzing around. I tried to capture it on video but it doesn't truly do the numbers justice. The area has had a huge influx on tent caterpillars and according to the New York Department of Environmental Continue reading

Learning to Learn in an EmpowerMind Workshop

Yesterday I took my son to an EmpowerMind Workshop in Oakland County, Michigan. EmpowerMind is an educational workshop offered by Kim Kassner. She teaches preteens, teens and adults how to determine their learning style and then process information by capitalizing on their personal strengths. I realized my children learned differently than what was expected of them when they attended school in Worthington, Ohio. The term right brain versus left brain thinking loosely explains two Continue reading
