What Band Kids Do With Their Spare Time

What Band Kids Do With Their Spare Time

I've covered a lot of Walled Lake Schools music on my blog over the past few years because my children were so heavily involved in band. This will be the last year I cover school concerts since my eldest is in college and my youngest has chosen bypass orchestra next year in order to pursue other courses that will help with his career of choice. He would have participated in the Walled Lake Marching Band but he's not able to because it's mandatory that he also be taking a music course (in most Continue reading

Can't see the video? Click here. I meant to get this online a couple of weeks ago, but life got busy. This is the WLN Marching Band's 2011 pre-show and show. The video was taken October 6th during the visit by Clifford Smart, Sarah Banks and James Geisler Middle School Bands. The football game was against Lakeland High School. The pre-game music includes the Northern FanFare, the Northern Fight Song, the Cupid Shuffle, the Northern Alma Mater and the National Anthem. The show theme Continue reading

30 Days of Thanks – Day 18

30 Days of Thanks – Day 18

Today I am thankful for my Flip Mino HD. I've used it to get video testimonials from a few clients on the real estate side of my business but I LOVE to use it to capture the Marching Band performances in a way that my camera can't - with sound and movement. After all isn't that what a Marching Band is all about? For a sample of the Flip and to see the last 2009 Walled Lake Northern Marching Band performance of 2009, watch the series of videos below. The high school marching band closed the Continue reading

30 Days of Thanks – Day 13 & 14

30 Days of Thanks – Day 13 & 14

Somehow I fell behind again! Here it is Day 15 and I'm just now getting around to being thankful for Day 13 and 14. Perhaps I should be grateful there aren't any 30 Days of Thanks police! Day 13 I was at a Marching Band Banquet. The whole time I was there I was thinking about how thankful I am for the parents who volunteer. I used to be one of those parents until recently. I began by volunteering in the class and as Preschool President and, up until we moved to Michigan, I was in the Continue reading

Saturday Afternoon Marching Bands

Loved the Third Annual Marching Band Preview Show organized by Walled Lake Central High School! I attended it last year at Central and was blown away by how well these high school students perform after a mere month of practice. This year the event was held at Northern and the variance in the routines and music impressed me further. Steven Clark of Detroit's Channel 7 Action News introduced the bands and entertained the audience with his humor and University of Michigan vs. Notre Dame Continue reading

1st Peek: 2009 Walled Lake Northern Marching Band

I've been a little slow in posting this but here is the post-camp performance of the Walled Lake Northern Marching Band. I wanted to keep Mary Hulliberger's introductions and volunteer thanks but I was limited by upload time and file size. If you're a WLNMB parent and want a copy of the entire performance, drop me an email and I'll make a copy for you. It's so hard to believe that these kids have learned their routines and music in only two weeks! A week of day camp at the school and a Continue reading
