Nickelback Concert, Bristow, VA 09-29-09

While on vacation, I attended a concert in Bristow, Virginia at the Nissan Pavilion. Not only did I have a great view of the entire 4+ hour show, but Dark Horse was the best and most fun concert I've ever attended. We arrived a little late and only saw Saving Abel perform Addicted. Papa Roach was a complete surprise - great stage presence. Hinder was good, I've liked their music for some time. Nickelback was awesome. Music was great, effects were stunning and Chad Kroeger Continue reading

Welcome to the USA

Welcome to the USA

I wasn't sure what to expect when I was told to be at the courthouse on W Lafayette street in downtown Detroit. I was actually a little surprised the naturalization ceremony was in a courthouse. I've always associated "court" with settlements, decisions and fighting. In retrospect I should have realized that accepting citizenship to a country that I was not born into, would be a serious and legal procedure and therefore required to be in a court of law. I grabbed my camera but decided Continue reading

North American International Auto Show in Detroit 01-18-09

Show me the Cup Holders! I am one of the women who takes cup holders into account when purchasing a car. I don't care very much about how many seconds the car takes to go from 0-60, I don't really care if it's got a HEMI in it. I expect whatever vehicle I consider to get my family from A to B and not cost a fortune in gas and maintenance. My priority is choosing a vehicle that has a comfortable interior space focused on sensible usability. Now that I live in Detroit, Michigan, I decided I Continue reading

Learning to Learn in an EmpowerMind Workshop

Yesterday I took my son to an EmpowerMind Workshop in Oakland County, Michigan. EmpowerMind is an educational workshop offered by Kim Kassner. She teaches preteens, teens and adults how to determine their learning style and then process information by capitalizing on their personal strengths. I realized my children learned differently than what was expected of them when they attended school in Worthington, Ohio. The term right brain versus left brain thinkingloosely explains two Continue reading

Not My Typical Weekend

Not My Typical Weekend

Typically on the weekend I wake up, work until noon, go for a run, bike ride, kayak or boat ride, make dinner, eat and play a little World of Warcraft. (Horde Rocks!) This weekend was different. Instead of fighting murlocks I was fighting blight. Recently I joined a networking group called Motor City Connect to learn more about the area. As a result I've met some exceptional people and found a few interesting events to attend! Through Motor City Connect, I learned of an opportunity Continue reading

Detroit on Foot: 10th Annual DAC – ULI Downtown Walking Tour

Last night I had the pleasure of seeing a new Detroit, a Detroit I didn’t know existed. I’ve lived in Michigan nearly three years and have only traveled downtown a handful of times. Each visit was enjoyable and made me appreciate the Motor City a tiny bit more than I had before the visit. Last night changed all that. I fell in love and learned to truly appreciate the city for its rich architectural history, its future potential and its optimistic presence. The walking tour theme was Continue reading
